As we enter the Top 10 of the Countdown, we return to the early 1970’s and this excellent pop song. It tells the story of a man walking through the Kentucky rain looking for the girl who left him the week before.
The song was written by Eddie Rabbitt (who, you’ll recall, loved a rainy night in 1981 – what is it with Eddie Rabbitt and rain?) and featured vision-impaired pianist Ronnie Milsap, who also charted in the mid-70’s.
I think that a good “story-based” song takes you to where the song was placed and this one does it – you can imagine the guy with his collar turned up walking through the countryside in drizzling rain. Good song that.
