Probably not a song that you’d expect to find in a Radio Ga Ga countdown but it ticks the boxes – it was released as a single in the modern era and almost made it to the national charts – in fact, the same position as yesterday’s song – number 48.

Undoubtedly, Sinatra was one of the biggest names in 20th century music and this was his signature tune. You would therefore think that it would have had more chart success when released in 1969.

My Way was written by Paul Anka who always said when asked why he hadn’t recorded himself, he said that it was always Sinatra’s song.

The most successful cover version was recorded by an up and coming artist from Memphis, a Mr Presley who included in concerts throughout the last few years of his life.

Ironically, it is reported by his daughter, Tina Sinatra, that Frank came to hate the song but could not complete a performance without singing it. These days, after the passing of the two singers who were eternally linked to the song, it is reputedly the most frequently played song at funerals.
