In 1975, some people in Australia may have known of the talents of “The Boss”, Bruce Springsteen – but in 1975, we were given the opportunity to hear the title track from his album Born To Run.

There are people who are prominent in their genre and within their repertoire, a song that is a classic demonstration of the artist and the genre. In my mind, Bruce Springsteen is such an artist and this song –
Born to Run – captures the essence of “Springsteenness”. That said, it managed to struggle to number 48 before disappearing from the charts.

Maybe it opened the door – Springsteen proceed to peel off 14 singles that DID make the Australian charts during the next 15 years or so. This, of course, creates a question in my mind – if The Boss had already had some Australian chart success when this single was released, would it have been more successful? Was he kicking in to the breeze of relative anonymity?

I guess we’ll never know but it surprises me that this only got to number 48.
