Well, what can I say that hasn’t been said before about this song. Could it get more daggy, more cringeworthy and, despite its reasonably provocative title and content, more sickly sweet?

The Starland Vocal Band consisted of two couples – two married before the band started and the other two married during their time as a band. Both couples divorced soon after. And if that wasn’t similar enough to ABBA, check out some of the moves in the video clip – very reminiscent of some of ABBA’s finest work.

One couple, Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, wrote songs for John Denver – most notably his first Australian hit, “Take Me Home Country Roads”. All four members went on to solo careers and even tried to reform in the late 1990’s. Happily, they were unable to match the 1976 peak in their careers and gave it away.
