One of the great songs of the 1970’s and one that created all sorts of speculation until recently – was it about Jagger, Beatty, Bowie, Kristofferson, somebody else. As it turns out, Carly Simon has acknowledged that verse two is about Warren Beatty but refuses, at this stage, to say who the other verses are about.
One interesting piece of trivia is that Mick Jagger – one of the men that it is supposedly based on – is one of the backing singers in the studio recording.
A great song. Very 1973. But what are clouds in my coffee?
