The first appearance in our countdown of a song taken from the double album, The Beatles (better known to most people as the white album). Probably my least favourite Beatles album, particularly the second record in the pairing, this is the second track on side 1 (preceded only by Back in the USSR) and provides the highlight on that side for me. The song was written about Prudence Farrow (sister of Mia) who was India with the Beatles, and spent most of her days inside meditating.
This is one of the very few Beatles songs that was been covered so well that it begs the question – which is the better version? Doug Parkinson In Focus released their version less than a year later, and if it isn’t better the Beatles own version, it runs a very close second.
