Well, yesterday (good Beatles pun, right there!) we heard from John and today, the whole band with one of only two charting hits from the 1970s (The Long And Winding Road was the other). Amazingly, it appears that there is no version of the song on YouTube that features the footage that we have all seen a thousand times over the years.

By the time that this song was recorded, the writing was on the wall for The Beatles as a group and yet, the song is arguably one of their best (I ranked it at number 6 in my Beatles countdown in October). Written by McCartney, I think it shows a musical maturity that underlines just how good a group of songwriters – and performers – these guys were.

And – here’s something special – ten days ago, at Melbourne’s AAMI Park, I got the chance to sing the song with Paul (OK, and with thousands of other people who were there too). It was one of so many, many highlights in the show – very privileged to have had that opportunity.

Let It Be is the first of two songs in this countdown that share the longest stretch in the Australian Top 40 (the other one will be revealed later this month) – 27 weeks – and as it happened they spent 25 of the those weeks in the charts together back in 1970.
