Avoiding the obvious opportunity to say that this song was released at a time when Diana Ross and her bandmates were reigning “supreme” at Motown Records, you’d have expected Stop In The Name of Love to have been one of their highest charting songs here in Australia.
Like so many of their hits, Stop In The Name Of Love was written by Holland, Dozier and Holland and was released in 1965 under the name the Supremes (without specific reference to Diana Ross), it only managed to reach number 45 on the Australian charts.
For the record, the song was beaten for the 1966 Grammy for Best Contemporary Rock and Rock Group Vocal by Flowers On The Wall by The Statler Brothers
