I’m no sociologist or demographer, but I am guessing that if we were to ask all of the working class men of Australia to nominate their favourite singer, Jimmy Barnes would have to be very close to the top of the list. Therefore, it made enormous sense for Jimmy Barnes to be the performer to record this song, written by the keyboardist from Journey, Jonathan Cain. It was used as an accompaniment to the credits in the Ron Howard movie Gung Ho, which was released in Australia as Working Class Man, to take advantage of the popularity of the song.

It is signature Barnesy and it is signature working class man. Coupled with the film clip which was filmed in cane fields near Cairns and the Port Kembla steel works, it is just about the perfect storm.
