You know that a piece of music is bordering on outstanding when you realise that it reached number 1, stayed in the charts here for almost five months and yet does not have a single lyric!
Hank B Marvin was part of the Shadows for many years, often being heard as the backing band for Cliff Richard. When the Shadows disbanded in 1968, Marvin went solo for a while, producing this track. It is said that Sacha was discovered by disc jockeys on 2WG in Wagga Wagga and the airplay it received here was enough to spark worldwide interest.
In an interesting link to yesterday’s song, John Farrar left The Strangers and headed for London where he joined Marvin and another Shadow, Bruce Welch, to form Marvin, Welch and Farrar, then Marvin and Farrar, before they became The Shadows once again.
