This song stands out for so many reasons – the orchestral background when most songs were moving from a standard line up of guitars and drums, the fact the song goes for over five minutes when most songs were restricting themselves to the standard three minutes and, I guess, because it is a song that I think could have been recorded at any time between the mid-60’s and the mid-80’s.
The song was written by Ryan’s twin brother Paul Ryan – they must have done quite a bit of similar collaboration because Eloise was released on an album called Barry Sings Paul Ryan. Their mother was also a successful singer in Britain in the 1950’s
