The Animals had visited the top 40 a couple of times before releasing We’ve Gotta Get Out Of This Place, including their debut single The House Of The Rising Sun which reached number 1 in 1964.

We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place was written by the songwriting machine that was Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil who wrote vast numbers of hits for many artists including Blame It On The Bossa Nova (Eydie Gorme), On Broadway & Saturday Night At The Movies (The Drifters), Here You Come Again (B.J. Thomas and later, Dolly Parton) and the song that was played on American commercial radio more times than any other during the 20th century – You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling (Righteous Brothers), which they co-wrote with Phil Spector.

We’ve Gotta Get Out Of This Place was later covered by The Angels (the Australian version) and reached number 8 here in 1987.
