Like yesterday’s number 5, Are You Old Enough, this is one of those songs that grabs you from the moment the introduction starts, doesn’t it?

Baker Street was Rafferty’s only solo hit (he had previously been in Stealers Wheel) and what a monster hit it was. In my recent Top 30 One Hit Wonders Countdown, I couldn’t find another one-hit wonder to bump this out of first place. A fantastic song that completes eight songs in this countdown from the year 1978.

Again, like Are You Old Enough, there is some speculation whether the song reached number 1 or 2 – this depends on which source you use – but the song that seems to have held it out of the top spot was You’re The One That I Want from the movie Grease.

Soaring saxophone. Great melody. Great song. Three to go.
