The third song to appear in the Countdown that started life as an Italian song. It’s Now or Never started out as “O Solo Mio”. Another English language version of the song – There’s No Tomorrow – was recorded in 1949 and was heard by Elvis whilst he was stationed in Germany. On his return to the US, he arranged for different lyrics to be written and It’s Now or Never was the new song.
In a number of concerts, one of Elvis’ backing singers would start singing O Solo Mio in Italian with the song morphing into It’s Now or Never after the first verse.
