Yes, I know – the original version wasn’t Eric Clapton but surprisingly, the original by Derek and The Dominos didn’t make the Australian charts. It wasn’t until Clapton took part in the MTV Unplugged series that the song made it into the Australian charts, peaking at number 3.

I guess its the mark of a great song that it can be so popular as an upbeat, screaming guitar type song in 1970 and yet 23 years later, make it into the charts as a melodic, acoustic song. The version I’ve linked to in YouTube is Clapton solo but in the style of Derek & The Dominos.

BTW, if you ever get the chance to hear Ronnie Charles (from The Groop) sing this with the London Philharmonic, you’ll be mightily impressed, too.
