This is a song that started life with a working title of Scrambled Eggs. Written by Paul McCartney, it features McCartney’s voice and acoustic guitar, augmented by a string quartet – effective a solo performance.

One thing that always sticks in mind from the late 1960’s was the number of people who used to appear on Kevin Dennis New Faces (a talent quest on Melbourne’s Channel 9) and perform this song – with interpretations that ranged from good to downright awful.

Yesterday is one of the most commercially covered songs, too with over 2200 known cover versions available. That said, I’ve yet to hear one that comes close to this pure, clean and uncomplicated version by the man who wrote it.
