Australia had not really seen anything like Skyhooks before and but the timing of their debut album and the start of Countdown on the ABC could not have been better synchronised.
Singing songs about Melbourne and going close to the edge with some of their lyrics meant that radio airplay was limited – particularly in other states – and therefore their chart performance was not what it should have and could have been.
Six of the ten tracks on the album of the same name were banned from radio airplay which did great things for album sales (everyone wanted a copy of the banned songs) but probably cost them a top 40 chart placing.
Fortunately, we can acknowledge them here!
