What a great track and what a fabulous rendition! Unlike Siouxsie and the Banshees version, Doug Parkinson pays appropriate respect to the original while still putting his own stamp on the song.
The remarkable part of this song is that it was recorded and released about six months after The Beatles released the original on their self-titled album, better known as the White Album. Imagine taking on a Beatles track and making it your own six months after they released theirs.
And even more remarkably, I think Doug’s version is better. The 7″ single is very much a treasured possession in my vinyl collection.
