Kevin Johnson is best remembered for two significant hits from the early 1970’s – Bonnie, Please Don’t Go (1971) and Rock ‘N’ Roll, I Gave You The Best Years Of My Life (1973), the latter song also being a major hit in the US for Mac Davis.
Kevin was born in Central Queensland and worked as a public servant by day and tried to make it as a musician at night. After his songwriting came to the attention of Col Joye, he relocated to Sydney where he started his recording career. An ill-fated decision to sign with an American label meant that he was unable to record in Australia which ultimately took him off the charts.
Kevin still lives in Sydney and made the following program promo for us.
